Sunglint on the Alabama River

.Within this June 26, 2023, photo taken from the International Spaceport station, direct sunlight shines off the soft waters of the Alabama Stream in a phenomenon known as sunglint. When photographing Planet, astronauts typically make the most of sunglint's propensity to boost the comparison between water surfaces and also surrounding property areas. In the 1960s, the Alabama River was actually obstructed, creating Dannelly Reservoir (the sizable polishing location at facility left). Building and construction of the dam also raised water levels upriver. This caused flooding at numerous factors along the river. These flooded zones are regular of flood plains-- the poor, flat areas right away next to much larger rivers. In this particular graphic, disaster area appear as rough, bright forms expanding away from the river, like at Gee's Bend (facility bottom).Text Debt: Justin Wilkinson.Photo Credit History: NASA/Woody Hoburg.
